Two weeks later, the "Highland Park Green Corridor Project" was born, uniting 23 residents, 5 local businesses, and a shared vision for a cleaner, greener community.
How It All Started
The project began with a simple comment on DailyBites LA from Maria Santos, a long-time Highland Park resident: "We are a bunch of volunteers and starting a new initiative in a community in the same niche. Your blog provided us with valuable information to work on. You have done an extraordinary process and our whole group will likely be grateful to you." That comment sparked a planning session at the local library, and within days, the project had a clear roadmap.
Concrete Goals for 2025
The group's first phase focuses on measurable improvements that residents can see and feel.
- Clean and plant 12 tree wells along York Boulevard between Ave 50 and Ave 52 by March 15, 2025.
- Install 8 new recycling bins in partnership with LA Sanitation, with weekly pickup schedules posted online.
- Organize a monthly community cleanup every first Saturday, starting with a kickoff on February 3, 2025, at 9 AM at the Highland Park Library (6126 N Figueroa St).
